1. The Laramie County Circuit Court has criminal jurisdiction over misdemeanors. This court’s civil jurisdiction is limited to cases which do not exceed $50,000. It also hears domestic violence cases. Some municipalities have also provided this court with jurisdiction over their ordinance violations. The Laramie County District Court hears appeals coming from the circuit court. District court appeals will in turn go to the Supreme Court of Wyoming, also located in Cheyenne. Wyoming does not have an intermediate appellate court.

2. A federal court judge consolidated separate cases filed by conservation groups against the federal government’s decision to transfer wolf management to the state. The groups are protesting the decision because Wyoming’s wolf management plan calls for wolves to be shot on sight in most parts of the state.

3. National Surety Corp. asked the U.S. District Court judge in Cheyenne for a delay in a civil lawsuit filed against CJM Hospitality LLC, wherein defendant is charged with attempting to burn down their own property to collect the $13.6 million insurance on it. The criminal case in connection with the 2010 Hitching Post fire is scheduled for February, and National Surety Corp. wanted the civil case to be postponed until after the criminal trial.
