The Madison County Circuit Court has general jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases filed in the county. It handles all the felony cases, along with civil lawsuits that exceed $25,000. The chancery court shares concurrent jurisdiction with the circuit court on most civil cases. The general sessions court has limited jurisdiction over civil cases below $25,000, along with misdemeanors, traffic offenses, and ordinance violations. All cases involving minors go to the juvenile court. The city of Jackson also has a limited jurisdiction municipal court.
