Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA) has extended its Wills and Probate Practice Area to include trusts and estate planning with the addition of Dirk R. Moore as Senior Counsel. In July 2011, Moore, who began practicing law in 1998, joined Hughes Watters Askanase. Additionally, he will support the practice’s finance, business planning, real estate, and business strategy practice areas.

Gary Gunn, co-managing partner of HWA, said that one of their highest priorities for the firm has been to enhance the probate and wills practice area. Due to their high wealth client base, they needed to address a viable need to further enhance this practice area. He added that Moore is a great addition and asset to the team, in addition to the clients that work with the firm. His extensive knowledge and well-established business relationships enable the firm to provide an enhance suite of high quality wills, trust, estate planning and probate services to clients.
At the firm, Moore will help clients with the managing and planning for intergenerational transfer of assets while also reducing risks for tax consequences. He will also help the firm’s corporate and real estate clients with corporate creations, contract negotiations, stock and asset transactions, financing arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, and other needs for clients.
Before joining the firm, Moore worked as a lawyer with Hudspeth, De Lange, McConnell & Tibbets, L.L.P. where he counseled corporate and individual clients in a large variety of estate planning and tax issues, with an prominence on estate planning and transferring family assets. He has widespread knowledge in trust issues, pre- and post-marital agreements, tax planning for closely held companies, and charitable law issues.
Moore once worked in Houston as an assistant vice president and trust officer with Kanaly Trust Company where he handled complex financial planning and investment procedures, tactics, and strategies including advising and assisting clients on the negotiation of employment law and company contacts and agreements, retirement analysis and assistance, and general reviews of overall asset, estate, property, and valuable allocation needs.
