Doctors at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center transplanted a kidney on April 6th from Mecannic into Yocabet , but they both say that they did so even though medical exams revealed that Mecannic was infected with Hepatitis C. One of the claims states that the hospital and various medical workers were reckless in multiple cases, one involving forgetting about the blood test results conducted months earlier and then neglecting to realize the results in many scenarios before the operation took place. The other part of the lawsuit states that doctors asked Mecannic whether she was unfaithful to Yocabet, charged her with having abused cocaine and then gave her the option choice of keeping her disease a secret from Yocabet. The couple has an 18-year-old son and has been together for 21 years. According to claims brought up in the lawsuit, blood tests revealed that Mecannic was infected with Hepatitis C on January 26, but the hospital neglectd to inform her and did not prohibit her as a possible donor. An additional test on April 22 also noted Mecannic had the disease, but she was not told until a month after her kidney had already been transmitted to Yocabet, at which time she says she was then given the choice of keeping it a secret. The hospital has admitted that the transplant surgery was a medical error and the result of human mistake. The liver and kidney transplant division of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center was closed for two months, a doctor was demoted and a nurse was suspended due to the hospital’s investigation, officials says. Hepatitis C is a serious condition that can result in liver damage and failure, liver cancer and cirrhosis. Have you or a loved one been a victim of medical malpractice? Our lawyers can help!
