San Antonio Spurs’ Advance to NBA Finals Puts Off Tim Duncan’s Divorce

San Antonio Spurs All-Star Tim Duncan is in the middle of a divorce with his wife Amy Duncan. It was Amy that first filed for divorce two months ago, but proceedings in the case have been on hold pending the Spurs’ continued progress all the way to the NBA finals.

Tim Duncan, 37, and Amy Duncan, 35, have been together since they were in college at Wake Forest University, where Amy was a cheerleader and Tim was on the Deacons basketball team. They got married on July 21, 2001, and have two children: daughter Sydney born in 2005 and son Draken born in 2007.

 Amy Duncan filed for divorce in March 27, 2013 in the Bexar County District Court in San Antonio, TX. Tim Duncan responded back with his own counter petition that was filed on May 20, 2013. His lawyer also filed a motion to postpone legal discovery until a future court date or after one month following the Spurs’ last playoff game.

As per Amy Duncan’s court filing, she is asking for divorce because of conflict and discord, and adds that she and her husband will enter into an agreement regarding division of marital assets.

Tim Duncan’s filing asks the court to enforce a prenuptial agreement, and also recognize that he owns property that is not part of the marital assets. Duncan signed a three-year $36 million deal with the Spurs last year. News reports say that Amy Duncan has moved out of the family home.

Tony Parker, who starred in the Spurs’ 93-86 win over the Memphis Grizzlies to clear their way into the finals, went through a similar high-profile divorce with actress Eva Longoria. Amy Duncan is now using the same divorce lawyer who represented Parker in his divorce case.
