Official Misconduct by Southaven Mayor Impacts Divorce and Family Law Case

Southaven, MS Mayor Greg Davis and his ex-wife Suzann Savage Davis got a divorce in June 2011, with the mayor agreeing to pay $2,300 in monthly alimony payments, along with $460 per month for a car note. He was also paying additional sums for their children’s expenses and clothing.

However, Suzann Davis has now filed to get the divorce terms modified after information surfaced that the mayor had used his official position to alter his payroll documents to make it seem like he earned less than what he actually got.
This information was submitted in affidavits provided by the police chief and two Aldermen who claim the mayor told them so during a meeting. The payroll alteration was done by the mayor to mislead investigators who were looking into his misuse of tax-payer funds for personal expenses including food, drinks and free trips.

In her petition to alter the divorce judgment, Suzann Davis claims that the mayor not only lied about his assets, but also drinks around the children and is using his position to threaten her. She now wants sole custody of their three daughters, and asked the court to grant child support payments.

The DeSoto County Chancery Court judge granted Suzann Davis’ petition for child support, setting up a temporary arrangement of $1,850 per month to be paid by Mayor Greg Davis. This will be in addition to the $2,300 he pays for alimony. The judge terminated all additional expenses for the children that Greg Davis was paying.

The changes to the divorce decree to add child support and terminate the other expenses were apparently agreed to out of court by both parties, so the judge did not need to hold a hearing and merely approved the new arrangements. The petition requesting changes to the child custody arrangements in the divorce decree will be heard at a later date.
