Law enforcement has identified two other suspects but they have not yet been taken into custody nor have their identities been released. White was beaten February 4 outside a convenience shop in a working class neighborhood located in southwest Atlanta. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed doubled to $10,000 compensation for facts leading to arrests. "When you see something going wrong, you must do what you're doing here today,' said U.S. Rep. John Lewis. White did not report the incident initially, but came forward after a video went viral on the internet. The video showed three men attacking White after he left the JVC Grocery and Deli. The surveillance video taped eight men standing around spectating, two of them with video cameras in hand. One person came towards White with a tire in his hands. Law enforcement is also investigating the situation to determine whether it meets criteria for prosecution mandated by federal hate crimes statute. Community residents said the area where White was beat is notorious for crime. |
