DDS stands for "Disability Determination Services" and is a process of verifying the medical information provided. DDS is in the hands of state agencies instead of the Social Security Administration (SSA). The local social security office only looks at non-medical eligibility criteria, and this might just as well cause the application to be rejected. In any case, this is where the appeals process kicks in. Are you or a loved one having problems with getting Social Security Disability benefits approved? Do you need help with an appeal? The appeal can be a simple request for a review based on the same information, or you can update the disability report with additional information and new medical tests and then request a comprehensive review. The appeal is handled by a different team in the DDS. If rejected again, you can file a second appeal which may need a hearing in front of an SSA ODAR (office of disability adjudication and review) judge. Also note that you have the option of taking the matter further with a civil lawsuit in a federal district court, which can itself be taken further with appeals all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary.
