For example, the Kenton County Courthouse in Covington is served by the 16th circuit and district courts that together have original jurisdiction over all cases filed in the county, except for those, which are filed in federal courts. The Kenton County Circuit Court is the main trial court with general jurisdiction, while the district court has limited jurisdiction over county and city code violations, small claims not exceeding $5,000, traffic infractions and misdemeanors.
